Spot UV & tactile labels · Printed digitally

Spot UV labels you can feel.

Gloss spot UV that catches the light on a wordmark, and raised tactile varnish built up to 150 microns, high enough to feel under a fingertip. Both are laid digitally on our JetFX line from a layer in your artwork, so there’s no screen or plate to pay for.

Minimum order £120 + VAT. We aim to get back to you the same working day.

Pairings

Gloss against matt.

Spot UV shows best on a surface that isn’t glossy. On a matt stock or a soft-touch laminate the varnish stands out twice: once in the light and once under your thumb.

Ditto Fragrances pairs soft-touch laminate with spot UV and digital foil, so the label reads as two materials: a velvet background and a wet-looking gloss accent on the brand mark.

Raised tactile varnish goes further. We build clear varnish up in layers until it stands proud of the label, so a customer feels the logo, a pattern or a texture as they pick the pack up. Under a peel & reveal label, a raised “pull here” arrow helps people find the tab.

JetFX lays flat spot UV, raised varnish and digital foil in the same pass, registered to each other and to the print underneath. The laser cuts the label’s shape in that same pass.

Varnishes and textures

Choose how it feels.

Each of these adds a surface the customer can see or feel. We’ll recommend one to suit your stock and design, and your digital proof marks exactly where it goes.

FLAT SPOT UV

Gloss where the artwork asks

Smooth, high-gloss varnish laid exactly to your artwork. Over soft-touch or matt laminate it gives the strongest contrast, so a logo or wordmark shines against the matt label around it.

RAISED TACTILE

Up to 150 microns

Clear varnish built up in layers until you can feel it under a fingertip. Use it on a logo, a pattern or a texture across the whole design.

SANDPAPER VARNISH

Coarse and grippy

A rough varnish with a true sandpaper feel. A strong cue for tool, industrial and craft spirit brands.

EMBOSS / DEBOSS

Raised or recessed

A shape pressed up or down into the label itself, with no ink. Ask us which stocks suit it.

TACTILE WARNINGS

Raised hazard triangles

Raised warning triangles for products that need them, such as e-liquids and chemicals, on standard or peel & reveal labels.

FAQ

Questions about spot uv & tactile labels.

Is there a minimum order for spot UV labels?
The minimum order is £120 + VAT per job. Spot UV and tactile varnish on JetFX need no screens or plates, so there’s no tooling charge on top at any quantity.
What’s the difference between spot UV and raised tactile varnish?
Both are clear varnish. Spot UV is a thin gloss layer you see more than feel. Raised tactile varnish is built up in layers, to as much as 150 microns, so you feel it under a fingertip as well.
Which stocks work best with spot UV?
Matt and soft-touch surfaces, where the gloss stands out by contrast. On a gloss label, spot UV loses most of its effect, so we’d suggest raised tactile varnish or a matt laminate instead.
Can you combine spot UV with foil?
Yes. JetFX lays foil, flat spot UV and raised varnish in the same pass, registered to each other, and the laser cuts the label shape in that pass too.
How do I set up artwork for spot UV?
Put the varnish areas on their own spot-colour layer named “SpotUV” in your PDF. We pre-flight the file and your digital proof marks where the varnish goes, for you to sign off before anything prints.
How quickly can you print spot UV labels?
Need a rapid turnaround? Get in touch and tell us your date. Spot UV and tactile varnish need no screens or plates, so once you sign off the proof there’s nothing to wait for before we print.
